Lothar Ohlmeier / Isambard Khroustaliov Duo

Isambard Khroustaliov (AKA Sam Britton from the electronic duo Icarus) and bass clarinet player Lothar Ohlmeier have been working together since 2005, exploring the landscape proposed by combining improvisation and electronics and performing at improvised music meetings, jazz and experimental music festivals all over Europe. Their first record ‘Nowhere‘ was released in 2008. 2013 saw the release of a second full length recording; ‘Lady Fairfax’ documenting a particularly fertile live encounter.

Press Quotes:

"Probably the most fascinating project since the London Sinfonietta interpreted the works of Aphex Twin and Squarepusher." 9/10, Rocksound

"The work remains dense, coherent, and of very high standard, making this record an unmissable experience." 4.7/5 – Album of the Month, The Milk Factory

"The contrast of futuristic, sci-fi sounds created by Khroustaliov and the traditional yet avant-garde musings of Ohlmeier’s bass clarinet make for a riveting listen." 7/10, Experimusic

"This music is always aurally compelling, but also has bonus aspects within the realms of tactile sensation and visual fantasy." BBC

“Any notion of this as an intellectual exercise is offset by the same impish playfulness which characterises Britton’s releases with Icarus.” Mapsadaisical

"Excellent, like discovering new life in the back garden." Plan B

"A genuinely new conception of sound" Jazzwise
