The maxim of punk was “anyone can do it”. While a similar spirit informs the openness of free improvisation and its quest for musical revolution, the music that it manifests is often a more contemplative and meticulous anarchy. Often it is also deeply contextual, rooted in the location and situation of its performance.
Landscapes is all of this: a recording made in Berlin, wrought from an open, European collaborative spirit forged pre-Brexit and before the recent rise of populism, and a deep reflection on where musical frameworks such as jazz, musique concrète, contemporary classical, IDM and ambient music end and the necessity for a new departure takes hold.
Landscapes is the third album by the free improvising electroacoustic trio of Lothar Ohlmeier (bass clarinet), Rudi Fischerlehner (drums and percussion) and Isambard Khroustaliov (electronics).
