‘Possessed’ screening at the BFI

Martin Hampton‘s film Possessed will be showing at the BFI as part of the London Independent Film Festival (LIFF) at 2pm on Monday 14th April.

Possessed enters the complicated worlds of four hoarders; people whose lives are dominated by their relationship to possessions. The film questions whether hoarding is a symptom of mental illness or a revolt against the material recklessness of consumerism. When does collecting become hoarding and why do possessions exert such an influence on our lives?

The film recently won the Silver Egg (second prize) at Emir Kusturica’s Küstendorf Film Festival in Serbia.

Not Applicable Album Launch Concert

On Friday 4th April we’ll be celebrating the release of two new records on Not Applicable with performances by both groups upstairs at the Betsey Trotwood in Farringdon. The night will start at 8pm and you can find further details here.

Arthurs.Høiby.Ritchie – This exciting trio features three of the UK’s most sought after musicians, Tom Arthurs, Jasper Høiby and Stuart Ritchie. All have their own separate projects but came together as Arthurs.Høiby.Ritchie in 2005. Their debut album, explications is simply one stage of what promises to be an exhilarating and ongoing journey for this fearsome trio.

“If there was ever any question that trumpeter Tom Arthurs was a world-class talent, then Explications leaves us in no doubt” Jazzwise
“tough discipline handled with verve and intelligence, most exciting record of the season.” Jazz Review

Lothar Ohlmeier / Isambard Khroustaliov – One of the most insightful and thought provoking electro-acousic duos to have appeared over the last few years, their debut release is the culmination of 3 years spent exploring the realms of improvised music and live electronics.

“Probably the most fascinating project since the London Sinfonietta interpreted the works of Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, 9/10” Rock Sound
“The level of symbiosis between the two musicians is such that the boundaries of their respective interactions is at times blurred, but even when the roles are clearly defined, the work remains dense, coherent, and of very high standard, making this record an unmissable experience. Album of the month.” The Milk Factory
“On the opening Haze, the bass clarinet is completely hidden, to begin, obscured by sonic transformation, frosted twists and clinging gauze-tones, with reed-matter gradually peeking through as the piece progresses. It’s a slow motion growth, with clicks and breath-wheezes magnified for a massive sound-stage. This music is always aurally compelling, but also has bonus aspects within the realms of tactile sensation and visual fantasy.” BBC
“Any notion of this as an intellectual exercise is offset by the same impish playfulness which characterises Britton’s releases with Icarus.” Mapsadaisical
“Excellent, like discovering new life in the back garden.” Plan B Magazine
